District 9: Like a Nation of Aliens stuck in a District

Harry Palmer here and I have got to tell you District 9 is pretty awesome.

You may have seen some of their viral advertising or their trailers and thought “What the hey is this all about?” Well let me tell you, it’s about 2 hours of awesome.

Now you know it’s not in theaters yet, but I have a few friends on the “inside” and I got to see a special screening of it, and I’m telling you the effects were awesome and the action was awesome and everything else was awesome too.

There’s a cop who totally knows all this urban streetfighting karate stuff and he goes into this special district to rescue his sister who was kidnapped by the drug lords. They’re in this area of South Africa were the aliens are segregated (clever bit that makes you think, doesn’t it?). So the cop goes in and he does all this super crazy jumping and back flipping off buildings, front flipping, side flipping, flipping pancakes, you name it and he does it. He gets chased all up and down the District 9 until he finds out that the mayor is looking to (SPOLIER ALERTS!) blow the whole place up!

Well, he doesn’t stand for that so he jumps and spins and kicks his way out of there and saves the day. He stops the bomb, the aliens are safe to jump and backflip all over the city, and everyone goes home a little beaten up, but safe and alive.

It would have been easy to just make this a nonstop roller coaster of action (I almost thought that I'd need an oxygen tank to watch the whole thing!), but that’s not what they did, they put a lot of stuff in there that makes you think. The girl isn’t just some damsel in distress, she’s a real tough cookie in her own right.

So when District 9 comes out, you must totally go see this movie. It’s an action packed thriller syfy adventure that’s not afraid to make you think.

Transformers 2 Has got Balls!

Transformers 2: The Fallen is one awesome romp. It’s like a thrill ride at the amusement park where you think it’s just about to end and then it gets better, and then it gets better again.

All the cool Autobots are back, Optimus Prime, Ratchet, Jazz, as well as some great new surprise heroes! The Decepticons are back too, and they’re ready to fight.

The action is crazy good, it’s like Michael Bay knows what we want and then teases us with it and then totally gives us more than we could ever need.

But it’s not just a bunch of robots punching each other, there is some suprising character depth as well. Shia LaBeouf’s Sam Wikwicky first doesn’t want to help his Autobot friends, but he then learns that he can’t escape his destiny and then the wants to help them out. All the robots get their moment to shine, too (no pun intended) but the two who really make it stand out are Sam’s parents. They’re great.

Megean Fox stands out, too. Don’t forget her. She’s got looks and smarts, she’s the total package as far as I’m concerned. You can sit on my lap any day, Megan, I’ll take you anywhere you want to go on my Rascal.

This movie is smart, funny, and action packed. It’s two steps above your typical summer popcorn movie and I recommend it to everyone. You’d be crazy to miss Transformers 2, it’s crazy good.

Moon

What the heck was this movie about?

I could not, for the life of me tell you what’s going on in Moon. The Sam Rockwell the Astronaut is on the moon completing his mission and then some weird stuff goes down and I don’t want to ruin it all for you, but it’s just to weird for me to describe anyways.

Well, I guess it’s kind of cool. They’re trying to make you think or something and it’s interesting in some places. But for a good sci fi movie, I’d stick with Terminator Salvation.

Clash of the Titans

Harry Palmer here and I’ve got a question for all of you. Raise your hand if you loved Clash of the Titans.

All of you, of course.

Clash of the Titans was awesome, it had some crazy good action with handsome hunk Harry Hamlin playing Persius and cutting a swath of destruction through Medusa, the Kraken, and any other evil monster that’s in his way.

Sure maybe the effects were a little herky jerky and wouldn’t stand up to some of the CGI powerhouses of today like Star Wars Phantom Menace or all of the Matrixes, but they rocked for 1981 and still have a certain charm today.

Please Hollywood, if you’re listening. It’s time to remake Clash of the Titans!
